Summary
- Support for transcripts in Apple Podcasts
- Support for recommended tags from the Podcast Standards Project
- Publish to S3-compatible services
Podcast Transcripts
- Transcripts can now be specified for podcast episodes and will be used by Apple Podcasts in iOS 17.4 and later. To show the list of transcripts, choose Editor > Transcripts > Show Transcripts from the menu or edit the template and enable Transcripts there.
- Click the + button to choose whether to add a transcript URL or upload a transcript file when the feed is published.
- By default only the transcript’s upload file or URL and Type columns are shown. Click the action (…) button to choose whether to show the Language and Captioned columns.
- Click on the transcript’s upload filename to choose another file, edit server options, or remove the file upload.
- When the Podcast Index extension is in use (see below), a Transcripts section will be shown under the Publishing heading in the Settings view and when setting up publishing for a feed. Here, you can choose whether to make transcript filenames unique to each enclosure, which will place the transcript files in a folder named after the corresponding enclosure. By default, transcripts will be published using the same settings as the feed.
- Apple Podcasts only supports the VTT and SRT formats for transcripts, whereas the Podcast Index extension also allows for JSON, HTML and Plain Text. When an incompatible format is shown, a warning is shown in the podcast preview (note that the transcripts themselves are not shown in the preview).
- When “Use Strict Validation” is enabled in Feeder’s Podcasts settings, validation will fail if an transcript format is specified that is incompatible with Apple Podcasts.
Podcast Standards Project
- Added support for the “podcast” namespace (known in Feeder as the "Podcast Index" extension) to support transcripts in Apple Podcasts, along with the recommended and optional tags for the Podcast Standards Effort.
- The Podcast Index extension can be enabled or disabled in the Settings view.
- Any feed that uses the Apple Podcasts extension will now automatically be set to use the Podcast Index extension when updating to Feeder 4.6.
- Feeds that use the Podcast Index extension will show a new section in the Feed view showing the GUID and Locked fields.
- In the Feed view, add Podcast Funding entries by clicking the + button alongside the Podcast Index heading and choosing Funding from the menu.
- In the Feed view, add Text entries by clicking the + button alongside the Podcast Index heading and choosing Text from the menu.
Publishing
- When using the Amazon S3 protocol for a server, click the Options button to set a custom endpoint, allowing you to use an S3-compatible service that is not provided by Amazon. The scheme (http/https) will be removed from the endpoint — select “Use HTTPS” to indicate whether secure URLs should be used.
General
- Open and Save panels now remember separate locations for enclosures, images, saving XML files, etc.
- Improved the appearance of the Feed and Settings sections.
- Open editor windows will no longer be restored if the Shift key is held down when opening Feeder.
- Fixed an issue copying a feed URL from the File menu when the sidebar has focus.
