Version 4.1
Requirements
macOS 10.14 or later.
Released
March 17, 2021
Summary
- Rich text editor with support for headings, bulleted lists, links, images and more
- Format Bar for rich text, HTML, and Markdown
- Sparkle Appcasting updated for Sparkle 2.0 Beta
Rich Text Editing
- It’s now possible to edit items’ descriptions in rich text. Choose Format > Rich Text from the menu to switch to the rich text editor.
- A format bar is now shown below the toolbar in editing windows. This works for Rich Text. HTML, and Markdown. Show or hide the format bar by choosing Format > Show / Hide Format Bar from the menu.
- The rich text editor supports headings, bulleted and numbered lists, links, images, bold, italics, underline, strikethrough and horizontal rules. These can be applied with the Format menu, shortcut keys, or the format bar.
- Lists can be created by typing a bullet, dash, asterisk, or number followed by a period, and will be converted when you press Return. To disable these automatic lists, choose Edit > Substitutions > Smart Lists from the menu.
- Rich text is the format for newly created feeds. Existing, downloaded and imported feeds will continue to use Automatic Line Breaks by default.
- The template editor now shows the Description as Markdown, HTML or Rich Text, depending on the item being edited (previously only supported HTML).
Editor
- Added a “Confirm before saving a draft to the feed” option to Editor preferences, on by default. When switched off, Feeder will not confirm before saving a draft to the feed when that item is manually saved.
- Restored the ability to fetch the dimensions of an image in the Insert Image panel.
- Recent links (seen when clicking and holding on the link toolbar button) to images are now identified by their “alt” attribute, if present, or “src” if not.
- The Format menu is now only shown when an editor window is frontmost.
- Fixed an issue where the height entered into the HTML image panel would be ignored.
Sparkle Appcasting
- The latest Sparkle 2.0 Beta now supports EdDSA signatures. While Sparkle only requires them for certain deliverables, Feeder requires them when the framework is set to v1.21+.
- If you are using the latest Sparkle 2.0 beta, make sure Feeder is using a Framework Version of 1.21+, and choose 1.6+ for an earlier version of Sparkle 1.x or the 2.0 beta that didn’t support EdDSA signatures. To change the Framework Version for a feed, choose View > Settings from the menu and scroll down to the Sparkle section.
- Changing the framework version so that EdDSA keys are required can cause Feeder to show validation errors for any items that do not have them. For items that are still required in the feed (because they provide an update to an earlier OS), edit the items to generate EdDSA signatures, and remove any other items that have been superseded by later releases.
General
- When searching on macOS Big Sur, the number of found items is shown below the feed name.
- Find & Replace Links can now either replace the links in all items or only the selected items.
- Fixed an issue where long enclosure URLs could get clipped in the preview.
- Fixed an issue where bulleted lists could be shown incorrectly next to floating images in the standard preview.
- Fixed an issue where the order of shared feeds in the sidebar could be lost.
