Notes
- After choosing Format > Styles > Edit styles from the menu, if changes to the default styles are saved, Keep It will ask whether to apply those styles to the note.
- Choose Format > Styles > Reset Styles in Note from the menu to reset the style of the selected text, or the entire note, to the current defaults (applies to notes created with Keep It 1.11 and later only).
- When notes are exported as HTML, text in the Title, Heading, and Subheading styles will be exported as h1, h2 and h3 respectively (applies to notes created with Keep It 1.11 and later only).
- Attached PDFs are now shown inline by default.
Notes & Rich Text
- Choose Format > Font > Adapt Colors for Dark Mode from the menu to toggle whether colors will be automatically adjusted to make them legible in dark mode (on by default, only effective when dark mode in use).
- Hold on the Option key and choose Format > Text > Always Show Ruler from the menu to always show the ruler in either notes or rich text files (depending on the format of the file being edited when the option is chosen).
Markdown
- Specify custom HTML for the
<head>
section a preview in Markdown Settings: when a Markdown document is being viewed, choose Markdown > Settings from the menu and click Advanced.
PDFs
- Added PDF > Convert to Note menu item. When chosen Keep It will confirm that you want to convert the PDF to an attachment on a new note. The original PDF will be moved to the system Trash. Encrypted items that are being viewed cannot be converted.
Images
- Added Image > Convert to Note menu item. When chosen Keep It will confirm that you want to convert the image to an attachment on a new note. The original image file will be moved to the system Trash. Encrypted items that are being viewed cannot be converted.
Sidebar
- Hold on the Option key and double-click folders to expand / collapse them instead of focusing on them.
Items
- Items in editing windows can now be moved to Deleted Items using the Item > Move to Deleted Items menu item.
- It’s now possible to select “Apply to all” when choosing to replace, keep both or skip while moving items between folders and an existing item is found with the same name.
Tags
- Added Tags preferences, which now includes the “Import Finder tags” and “Update Finder tags” options that were previously in Advanced preferences.
- Added the option “Use hashtags in text files” to Tags preferences. When enabled, hashtags in notes, rich text, plain text and Markdown files will autocomplete, and become clickable to begin filtering for that tag. The hashtags will be used as the item’s tags when the files are saved. Keep It will offer to extract hashtags from existing notes and text files.
- Hashtags can contain alphanumeric characters and underscores. When converted to Keep It tags, the leading hash will be removed and underscores will be converted to spaces. By default, Keep It will only allow all-numeric hashtags (like Apple Notes, but unlike social media) if the “Allow numeric hashtags” option is enabled in Tags preferences.
- When filtering tags, the number of items found will be shown in the window subtitle on macOS Big Sur and later, and in the status bar on macOS Catalina.
- Hold on the Option key to access the Item > Replace Tags menu item.
Imports
- Import bookmarks from an HTML file, such as those created by web browsers, by choosing Keep It > Import > Bookmarks from the menu. Folders and tags in the bookmarks file will be preserved.

- In Imports preferences, click the action (…) button next to the Text Files pop-up to access the “Import hashtags as tags” option. When enabled, hashtags in rich text, plain text, and Markdown files will be converted to Keep It tags when the files are first imported, regardless of the “Use hashtags in text files” option in Tags preferences.
- When using the Add Files sheet, there is now an “Import hashtags as tags” option to override the setting in Imports preferences.
