Questions & Answers
Why do I see a “Task Failed” message after opening Keep It?
This indicates that your iPhone or iPad has prevented Keep It from continuing its work in the background. To allow Keep It to continue:
- Swipe the message away
- Open Keep It
- Leave the app on screen until the progress shown above the list of items completes.
If you see no activity there:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to show the multitasking view (or double-click the Home button, if your device has one)
- Flick up on Keep It to force it to quit
- Open Keep It again
If you continue to experience problems, please send a support request with log files attached.
Why is this happening?
Normally, iPhone and iPad apps cannot do any work when they are not on screen. Keep It uses a feature introduced in iOS 26 that allows it to continue long-running tasks such as fetching your entire library from iCloud even when the app is not active. However, iOS may terminate those background tasks if it needs to free resources.
At iOS’s discretion, Keep It can also perform outstanding background tasks such as iCloud operations and indexing the content of files when your device has a network connection and external power (e.g. while charging overnight).
Can Keep It use file syncing services, such as Dropbox or One Drive?
No. Keep It cannot be used with any file syncing service, not even iCloud Drive. Instead, Keep It uses iCloud directly and makes all of its files available in the Files app on iOS and the Finder on Mac.
Can Keep It have multiple libraries?
No, Keep It only has a single library, but you can use its folder features to achieve a similar thing. When a folder is selected, you will see everything that folder contains. When that folder has subfolders, you can focus on the folder to reduce the sidebar to only that folder and its children:
- Swipe right any expandable folder to focus on it
- Tap the X button next to the folder to stop focusing
