General
- Keep It now supports Dark Mode on iOS 13. More details below.
- All UI icons updated for iOS 13.
- Keep It now requires iOS 12 or later.
Search
- Keep It now indexes attachments on notes, rich text with attachments documents (RTFD), and mail messages. It will also perform text recognition on PDF and images attachments, if necessary.
- Search suggestions are now shown below the search field rather than above the keyboard on iOS 13.
- On iOS 13, tap and hold on a suggestion to see a contextual menu to change how a match will be made.
- On iOS 13, save a search by dismissing the keyboard, if necessary, and tapping Save Search in the toolbar below the list.
- On iOS 13 Keep It will now be able to perform lengthy tasks such as indexing and text recognition overnight.
- Keep It will no longer perform any indexing or text recognition when low Power Mode is enabled on iPhone.
- Added an option to Settings to use Mobile Data to index and perform text recognition on items (off by default).
Working with Items
- It is now possible to open items in other applications without making a copy or going through the Files app, provided the other application supports this. Keep It must be visible in the Files app for this to work.
- When viewing encrypted items before a password has been set on the device, Keep It will now prompt to save the password entered if there is no password saved in the keychain or decryption failed.
- The “Open URL” button is now only shown in the Info view when there is a URL to open.
- When an item’s dates in the File Information part of the Info view, the change is now only made when clicking Save on the Info view, rather than immediately.
Notes
- When Dark Mode is enabled on iOS 13, notes will automatically be shown as light text on a dark background, unless they are using a custom background color.
- On iOS 13, choose to always show notes as dark text on a light background by tapping Aa, then the settings button, and switching “Always Show as Light Content” on.
- On iOS 13, image and PDF attachments can be annotated with Markup.
- If text doesn’t appear readable in Dark Mode, use the “Clean Up Formatting” text menu item to reset the text to default colors.
- Tapping on an attachment will immediately open a Quick Look preview, when possible, rather than start editing the text.

- Dark versions of the built-in Markdown editor and preview styles are used automatically when Dark Mode is in use on iOS 13.
- On iOS 13, choose to always show Markdown files in light mode by tapping the activity button, then Markdown Settings, and switching “Always Show as Light Content” on.
- MultiMarkdown 6 is now used for previews and HTML export. This changes the available options in the Preview section of Markdown Settings, and the syntax for strikethrough to CriticMarkup.
- Added the ability to highlight text in CriticMarkup syntax.
Plain Text on iOS 13
- When Dark Mode is enabled on iOS 13, plain text files will automatically be shown as light text on a dark background.
- Choose to always show plain text files as dark text on a light background by tapping the activity button, then Plain Text Settings, and switching “Always Show as Light Content” on.
PDFs
- On iOS 13, tap the Markup button to annotate the PDF.
- When editing notes on highlights, the note text will be shown as either light or dark depending on the highlight color.
Images on iOS 13
- Annotate images by tapping the Markup button. If the image cannot be saved in its original format, Keep It will offer to replace the item or save a copy.
Web Pages
- When finding occurrences of text in web pages, it no longer matters whether characters are accented or not.
- Thumbnails will now be generated for web archives.
Mail Messages
- Image attachments in plain text messages are now shown inline.
- Improved the appearance of other attachments.
- Improved rendering for HTML emails.
- Attachment viewing is now full-screen on iPad.
- When finding occurrences of text in mail messages, it no longer matters whether characters accented or not.
- When appropriate, Mail messages will appear as light text on a dark background when Dark Mode is in use on iOS 13.

Shortcuts on iOS 13
- Use the “Add Text to Keep It” shortcut in the Shortcuts app to add text to a new item in Keep It. Optionally specify a format for the text file that’s created, a list in which to store it, a name for the new item, and tags. The output of the shortcut is a Keep It item that can be used in additional steps.
- Use the “Append Text to Keep It item” shortcut in the Shortcuts app to append text to an existing editable text item in Keep It.
- Use the “Add Files to Keep It” shortcut in the shortcuts app to create new items from the files passed in. Optionally specify a destination and tags for the files.
- Use the “Add Web Link to Keep It” shortcut in the Shortcuts app to add a web link, optionally choosing whether or not to save for offline, and which format. It’s also possible to specify a destination list and tags for the newly created item.
- Use the “Get Items from Keep It” shortcut to find items by name, filename, comments, source, tags, kind, list, label, and dates.
- Use the “Get Text Content from Keep It” shortcut to get the textual content of any note, rich text, plain text or Markdown item.
- Use the “Get Item” shortcut to get a specific Keep It item from its link identifier or link URL.
- Use the “Get List” shortcut to get a specific Keep It list from its link identifier or link URL.
- Use the “Get Label” shortcut to get a specific Keep It label from its link identifier or link URL.
